Well here we are. 5 years old. Who would have thought. We have been through a ton. We have had great times and not so great times. We have feasted like kings and starved like paupers. Through it all we have held true to our core beliefs though. I think that is why we are still around…and expanding.
We opened on tax day 2008. 5 months later our honeymoon was over. The Great Recession hit. That paired with some construction on our street cut our sales by 85%. We were nervous that we would fall into that statistic of upstart restaurants failing in the first year. What do we do?
At that point I sat down with the staff and said basically that I didn’t know what was going to happen tomorrow or the next day or a week from now or a month from now. All we could control was today. At the time we were coming off of our first community dinner and the experience had touched us all in many different ways. We, as a team, decided that we would operate as if there was no tomorrow and commit to helping our community in any way we could. Since then we have hosted many community dinners and cookouts, totally free of charge to the community, and met tons of great people in the process.
I firmly believe that the reason we are still here is because of our community involvement and those who we touched continue to support us. Sure we make a pretty decent sandwich too.
So for this our 5 year anniversary, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to our neighbors, our city, our community of supporters and I want to say thank you to my staff. Without them we would be nothing…but another statistic.
